PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Abu Naser Robii is a multidisciplinary visual and performance artist, curator, and cultural organizer whose practice spans painting, drawing, installation, socially engaged art, and performance. His work explores spirituality, ecological awareness, collective memory, vulnerability, transformation, coexistence, and the relationship between human beings and their environments. In 2004, he founded Porapara Space for Artists, an independent artist-led initiative dedicated to experimental art practices, public interventions, performance art, and international cultural exchange.

Over two decades, he has conceptualized, curated, coordinated, and facilitated a wide range of programs including artist residencies, workshops, festivals, educational initiatives, artist talks, and collaborative projects involving practitioners from Bangladesh and abroad. Through sustained collaborations with artists, universities, cultural institutions, and independent art spaces across Asia and beyond, he has contributed significantly to contemporary and performance art discourse in Bangladesh.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Creating imagery has always been mysterious to him. His drawing, painting, and performance practices construct imaginary spaces beyond visible reality, exploring the autonomous presence of the human spirit within a universe that is shapeless, interconnected, and infinite.

Working across painting, performance, installation, and socially engaged art, he investigates spirituality, ecological imbalance, collective memory, and the fragile relationship between human beings and their environments. He is interested in how the body can function simultaneously as a site of personal experience, social inscription, and transcendence.

Through performative actions, he attempts to reveal tensions between vulnerability and resilience, individual agency and collective responsibility, permanence and impermanence. His artistic process often extends beyond the production of objects and values dialogue, participation, and the creation of temporary communities of exchange.
