As an artist, I believe that art is a means of communication that encompasses a range of mediums and approaches. My artistic practice is multifaceted, incorporating drawing, printmaking, installation, and performance to create thought-provoking experiences for viewers.

Through photography, I seek to spark dynamic exchanges and reflections around the creative process, exploring the intersection of different artistic practices while encouraging personal expression, experimentation, and risk-taking.

My approach to sculpture is grounded in the belief that it is a living presence, a unique language that occupies space and time, imbuing the materials from which it is crafted with meaning and purpose.

Each of my works is meticulously crafted to occupy a specific space, chosen for its unique qualities of light, time, and context. I aim to create a history of sensation and movement, engaging viewers in a dialogue with the materials and shapes that I present.

My ongoing project is a journey of exploration, delving into the depths of visual expression and communication. I bring together a range of interdisciplinary artistic practices, including performance, video, happening, and public art, to create a rich and layered experience. Drawing, printmaking, and painting are woven throughout my work, adding depth and nuance to the visual and conceptual themes that I explore. Through my art, I aspire to create an immersive experience that captivates and challenges viewers, inviting them to reflect on their own creative potential and engage with the world in new and exciting ways.

A lone figure moves slowly, candle in hand, soft music in the air. With each step, rose petals fall—fragile offerings of love and stillness.

Light of Peace is a quiet gesture toward harmony, where silence speaks, light guides, and beauty breathes.

“My mind is shrouded in a cloud of distress, Though I am supreme, hope\’s flame flickers, The unrelenting noise of life continues its flow.”

I explored the concept of reaching a new existence by immersing myself in physical and human activities and presented my latest experiment at the Asian Biennale. Through my performance, I sought to capture the imperishable survival of hope, even in the face of life\’s obstacles, by embodying the accumulated clouds of pain that can sometimes obscure our path in life. With the help of foam that resembled clouds, I moved through different physical postures, allowing the audience to witness the rhythmless but resonating nature of this experience.

Repetitive and rhythmic physical action and activity can drive someone to his absolute and sovereign existence. The performance action was developed to examine this Idea. This is the latest of many more tests of this idea.

১৯তম এশিয়ান এর ২য় দফায় পারফর্মেন্স সম্পন্ন হল।

১৯তম এশিয়ান আর্ট বিয়েনাল-২০২২ এর আয়োজনে ঢাকার শিল্পকলা একাডেমীর গ্যালারীতে ১লা ডিসেম্বরে শুরু হওয়া পারফর্মেন্স আর্ট কার্যক্রমের অংশ হিসেবে আমার “ বেদনার পুঞ্জিভূত মেঘ মাথায় জেগে রয় পরম আমি, তবুও আশার আলোক ঝিকিমিকি, জীবনের কোলাহল এ’লোক ও’লোক ঘুরেফিরে ক্লান্তিহীন ” শিরোনামের শেষ পারফর্মেন্স ১০ তারিখে নির্ধারিত থাকলে ও ঢাকার রাজনৈতিক পরিবেশ ও আমার শারীরিক অসুস্থতার কারনে তা ১০ তারিখের পরিবর্তে ১১ ডিসেম্বর উপস্থাপিত হয়েছে। পারফর্মেন্স এর আয়োজনের কিউরেটরিয়াল দায়িত্ব নিয়েছেন প্রিয় শিল্পী আব্দুস সালাম। তাঁর সাথে নবীন শিল্পী ইমরান সোহেল ও শিল্পকলা একাডেমীর স্টাফ শিল্পী সুজন মাহাবুব কো – কিউরেটরিয়াল দায়িত্বে ছিলেন, এনাদের সহায়তায় ছিলেন উঠতি আর্ট ম্যানেজার শেখ হাসান। এই আয়োজনে যুক্ত আর যারা আছেন সকল কে ধন্যবাদ নিজেদের মুল্যবার সময় ও সামর্থ্য দিয়ে এটিকে সাধ্যমত বাস্তবায়ন করার জন্যে। পাশাপাশি আমার সতীর্থ মঞ্জুর আহম্মদের কিউরেশনে উপস্থাপিত আন্তর্জাতিক পারফর্মেন্স অংশটি ও উপভোগ করেছি, দেখা হয়েছে আমার কোরিয়ান শিল্পী বন্ধু Gim Gwang Cheol এর সাথে। পরিচিত আরো অনেকে এই প্রদর্শনী উপলক্ষ্য ঢাকায় অবস্থান করলেও শিল্পকলা একাডেমীর ও রাষ্ট্রীয় নানা আয়োজনে ওনাদের আটকে রাখার কারনে দেখা হলো না।

একই রকম শারীরিক ও মানিষিক কর্মকান্ডের ভিতর নিজের সচেতন সত্ত্বাকে লীন করে দিয়ে নিজের নবতর অস্থিত্বের কাছে পৌঁছা যেতে পারে এমন ধারনা কে যাচাই করার চেষ্টা থেকে এই শিল্প কর্মের সুত্রপাত। এই ভাবনার আরো অনেক পরীক্ষার মধ্যে এটি সর্বশেষ।

কর্মকান্ডঃ
এই পারফরমেন্স এ মূলত বিপুল পরিমাণ ফেনা তৈরি করে তাঁর সাথে শিল্পী নিজে মেঘের মত দেখতে ফেনার ভিতরে মিলেমিশে বিচিত্র দৈহিক ভঙ্গির ভিতর দিয়ে তাঁর ভাবনার দৃশ্যায়ন করতে সচেষ্ট থাকবেন। এই কর্মকান্ড পরিস্থিতি সাপেক্ষে ১০ মিনিট থেকে ৩০ মিনিট সময়কাল ধরে চলতে পারে।

Timirer Kothokota

Sanjoy Talapatra was a bright young student of Painting in the Department of Fine Arts at Chittagong University. However, on August 20, 1998, tragedy struck when he was on his way to catch the university train at Battali railway station. Sanjoy was attacked by an unknown terrorist and sustained a serious head injury. Despite receiving medical treatment, he sadly passed away on his 22nd birthday on August 22, 1998, leaving behind his devastated family.

Sanjoy was an only son and had a sister, and his loss was an irreplaceable blow to his family. It has been 11 years since his untimely death, yet there has been no investigation or action taken against the terrorist responsible for Sanjoy\’s death. His family and loved ones are still left with unanswered questions about why this tragedy occurred.

To honor Sanjoy\’s memory, an exhibition of his works was recently held. The opening talk was given by the Chairman of Fine Arts, Mr. Jasim Uddin, and was attended by Professor Abdullah Khalid, Monsur-ul-Karim, Dhali Al Mamun, Alak Roy, Mizanurrahim, Sayed Saiful Kabir, lecturer Alaptagin Tusar, Saila Sarmin Sathi, and all of Sanjoy\’s fellow students. The event was marked by a solemn tone as everyone wore black badges to pay their respects to Sanjoy and his family.

A Cross-Cultural Art Installation Inspired by Kazi Nazrul Islam\’s Epic Poem

Rebellious is an installation that reflects on the power and universality of Kazi Nazrul Islam\’s epic poem while exploring the cultural and political exchanges between Bangladesh and Jordan. The installation consists of a video and object art piece created by two artists, Rafiq Nasiruddin and Abu Naser robii, during an international art workshop in the village of Satana, near Amman, Jordan.

The installation is set in a room of a traditional house made of mud and stone, where the artists inserted various accessories that reflect the light and energy of the poem. The video projection features excerpts of the poem in its original Bengali language, followed by translations in English and Arabic. The objects in the installation include various elements such as traditional calligraphy, photographs of landscapes and cityscapes, and other symbolic objects that represent the cultural and political identity of Bangladesh and Jordan.

The installation is an outcome of a series of activities and discussions that took place during the 22-day art workshop. The artists explored the themes and ideas present in the poem while attempting to translate them into English and Arabic. They engaged in long discussions on various cultural and political issues relevant to both countries and their mutual interest and effort to understand and share was genuine.

Rebellious is an artistic attempt to exchange the cultural and political ideas of Jordan and Bangladesh through the powerful and attractive elements of rebel poetry. The installation aims to reflect on human existence and the power of poetry to awaken any person from within. It seeks to bring together people from different languages, cultures, and backgrounds to engage in meaningful dialogues and exchange of ideas through art.
